About the DJ

What is your idea behind the show?:

The tracks I select for the show are 99% recent discoveries. Music that has caught my ear, that I think is interesting and worth showcasing.

What Style/Genre should we expect:

House or Deep House, sometimes a hint of Nu-Disco. Anything with a good groove.

What year did you start DJing?:

2003

What got you started?:

I started DJing before it was cool to DJ as the cliche goes. It was before the advent of digital DJing so you had to buy a set of turntables and go out record shopping. My brother was a lot older than me and went out to raves like Helter Skelter regularly so I had been exposed to that old skool hardcore sound from an early age. I think my first records were bought from HMV and were actually commercial releases like Eminem. As I got going I quickly realised I needed to either go down the Hip Hop/turntablist route or electronic music/club DJ route. I chose the latter and the rest is history.

What were your early influences?:

As I said my brother exposed me to the rave sound of the mid 90s which I like to think stood me in good stead. In my late teens I was listening to the Bonkers series with friends from school so started to buy some Happy Hardcore records. It never really stuck though. I then went on to meet a collective of DJs that were playing a more Housey sound, they invited me to play a few of their parties and from then on I gravitated towards that kind of BPM.

What was the first track or album you bought?:

My first albums I bought were Moby – Play (still my favourite album to this day) and Craig David – Born To Do It.

What’s your favourite musical memory?:

One that stands out is walking up to the main stage of The Garden Festival in Croatia with Crazy P mid set. I had never heard of them before and it was the perfect setting with some of my best mates to be introduced to them. It was a live band playing electronic music in a way I had never heard before. It was a real “what the fuck is going on moment”.

What’s your favourite venue you have played in or visited?:

Visited I would have to say probably Pikes in Ibiza.

What’s your favourite artist?

That’s a tough out but Dam Swindle is a stand out production duo for me.

What’s you favourite label?:

Get Physical.
