19 Highly recommended house music radio stations for music discovery

The top 5 picks

Lets kick thing off with my top selection of house music radio stations. Each one brings something to the table serving up some prime offerings from their schedule of radio hosts and DJs.

1. Ibiza Global Radio, Spain

Ibiza Global Radio

Ibiza Global Radio was founded in 2007 and is based on the island of Ibiza, Spain.

The station primarily plays house music, but also features other genres such as chill-out, ambient, and lounge music.

Some regular contributors include island favourites David Moreno, Jose De Divina, and Toni Moreno.

It’s been awarded the prize for “Best Online Radio” by Ibiza DJ Awards, and it was the first radio station in the world to broadcast 100% in electronic music.

I spent 3 summers working in Ibiza and this was my goto station whilst driving round the island.

Many shows are hosted by the islands resident DJ’s and it’s a good musical insight into whats going on in the mecca of dance music.

2. THE LOT RADIO, USA

The Lot Radio

The Lot Radio is an online radio station founded in 2015 and it’s located in the city of New York, USA.

The station primarily plays a variety of genres including House, Techno, Soul, Jazz, and Hip-Hop.

It features a mix of live DJ sets, talk shows, and pre-recorded shows from local and international DJs and producers, as well as live performances from artists.

Some regular contributors include, Anthony Parasole, Aurora Halal, and Jacques Renault.

I love this expmple of how simple things can be effective.

3. Kiosk Radio, Belgium

Kiosk Radio

Kiosk Radio is an innovative online community radio station that started broadcasting in 2017.

Based in a wooden kiosk located in Brussels’ historic Parc Royal, the station operates 24/7 and offers a diverse mix of music genres, including jazz, electronic, rock, and experimental sounds.

4. Kiss FM, Australia

Kiss Fm Au

KISS FM is an independent radio station in Melbourne that plays 100% dance music.

With its cutting-edge programming and focus on emerging talent it’s a good representation of what Melbourne’s vibrant club culture has to offer.

Many of the show hosts hold residencies in the cities favourite club nights and venues.

5. NTS Radio, Global

Nts Radio

NTS is a London-born online radio station that was founded in 2011.

The station plays a diverse range of genres including deep house, electronica, hip-hop, jazz, funk, and world music.

Some regular contributors include, James Lavelle, Gilles Peterson, and Benji B.

NTS Radio is known for its diverse and genre-spanning programming, and it has a strong focus on underground and emerging artists.

Since it’s inception it has gone on to open perminant studios in both Manchester in the UK and Los Angeles but you will frequently hear broadcasts from different locations around the world.

The more professional internet radio stations

Next, we have the radio stations that I would consider to be the more polished operators. They either feature well-designed websites with strong branding, are easy to navigate, or have some sort of commercial element.

6. Ibiza Sonica, Spain

Ibiza Sonica

Ibiza Sonica Radio is another prominent Ibiza based electronic music station that launched in 2006.

It was founded by Igor Marijuan and Miguel Valverde, who aimed to capture the vibrant spirit of Ibiza’s electronic music scene and share it globally.

This is one of the few station on this list that operates both online and on FM (95.2 in Ibiza).

Ibiza Sonica quickly gained international recognition. It is celebrated for its unique content, including live broadcasts from Ibiza’s iconic clubs, music festivals, and beaches.

The station has won several awards, including the “Best International Radio” award at the International Radio Festival in 2012.

7. FLUX FM, Germany

Flux Fm

Flux FM is a Berlin-based online radio station that was founded in the year 2000.

The station plays a variety of music genres including Electronic, Indie, Pop, and Alternative.

It’s really many channels of radio all under one roof so there is a lot to choose from. T

he two that interested me were Sound Of Berlin and Klubradio as you get some nice electronic music played, although, not neseserily in a traditional radio show formatt.

You get two for one in this option so it’s a double whammy.

It’s based in Ibiza and broadcasts worldwide, providing 24/7 live streams. The station is particularly notable for its connection to the vibrant Ibiza electronic music scene and offers a wide range of shows featuring both established and emerging artists.

This is another on the list that operates both on FM and online, 103.7 for listeners in Ibiza and Formentera.

9. Voices Radio, UK

Voices Radio

Voices Radio is a dynamic community radio station based in London, launched in June 2021.

Originating from a nomadic club series called Ossia, which hosted parties across the UK, Voices rebranded to focus on social issues and community engagement through music and discussions.

It broadcasts from Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross, featuring a wide range of genres and topics, each day bringing its unique flavor to the airwaves.

The station is committed to diversity and inclusion, boasting a 50/50 gender producer split and actively supporting underrepresented groups, including people of color and individuals from working-class backgrounds.

Voices also runs a podcast studio and a bar, providing listeners and contributors with a full cultural experience in the heart of London.

10. Frisky Radio, USA

Frisky Radio

Frisky Radio is a leading online station dedicated to underground electronic music, founded in 2001.

Initially based in San Francisco, it later relocated to New York City.

It has built a reputation for high-quality, curated DJ sets, featuring artists from around the world, from up-and-coming talent to international superstars.

Frisky offers both free streaming and a premium subscription service, providing a platform for electronic music lovers to discover new sets and enjoy exclusive DJ mixes.

Frisky offers three channels, Frisky, Deep and Chill which means there should be something to suit your mood.

11. Radio Deep, Romainia

Radio Deep Romania

Radio Deep Romania is an online station that specializes in deep, melodic, and tech-house music. It streams non-stop from Bucharest.

The grass roots & community house music radio stations

We’ve now reached the final section, which features some radio stations that may not be as polished. You might encounter slightly more confusing designs and user experiences, but ultimately, as long as they are playing house music, that’s what matters. I also appreciate the grassroots aspects of these stations; they are definitely worth supporting.

12. Noods Radio, UK

Noods Radio

Noods Radio is a Bristol-based online radio station that was founded in 2016.

As well as house the station plays a variety of genres such as alternative, experimental, and hip-hop music.

Some regular contributors include DJ’s, producers, and musicians from Bristol and surrounding areas.

Noods Radio prides itself on being a community-driven radio station, and it has a strong focus on local talent and underground music scenes.

This station stuck out to me becuase of their interesting program of community initatives.

It’s a good example of people venturing outside the studio and making a difference trying to put on programs outside of radio shows.

13. Subtle Radio, UK

Subtle Radio, originally known as Subtle FM CIC, was founded in 2018

The station operates from Hackney Downs Studios, in London.

14. 1BTN, UK

1btn Radio

1BTN (also known as 1 Brighton FM) is a community-driven underground radio station that started broadcasting in April 2015 from Brighton & Hove, UK.

Initially launched as 1 Brighton FM, it rebranded as 1BTN in 2017 to better reflect its broader ambitions and growing reach beyond the local area.

This is a solid multi-genre station promoting diverse music genres, from indie and punk to house and hip-hop, with a focus on showcasing underground and eclectic sounds.

1BTN is commercial-free and operates as a not-for-profit station, featuring a roster of over 100 DJs, musicians, and community groups.

It broadcasts live shows from 7 am to midnight, and aims to expand to a 24/7 schedule.

The station supports local community initiatives by offering airtime, training, and studio access to various groups, including students and charities.

15. Move Da House, UK

The station specializes in electronic music and otherworldly sounds from around the globe, offering exclusive radio shows, guest mixes, and occasional outside broadcasts.

The station features a diverse roster of resident DJs and show hosts, each contributing to the station’s 24/7 live programming. Shows like “Story Mode,” “LONG LIFE CLUBBING,” and various resident shows showcase the station’s commitment to curating a unique and engaging musical shedule.

17. Party Groove, Italy

Party Groove Radio is an Italian online station founded in 2003, specialising in 100% pure house music.

Broadcasting from Turin, it covers a range of genres including deep house, soulful, nu-disco, tech house, and funk.

Its programming celebrates the evolution of house music from the late 70s to today.

Party Groove is not only a digital station but also broadcasts on FM 89.0 in Northern Italy.

18. Stomp Radio, UK

Stomp Radio

The original incarnation of Stomp Radio, known as Stomp FM, began as a London-wide pirate radio station in 1986, broadcasting on 105.4 FM. This pirate station operated until the early 1990s.

After the pirate radio days, the founders were involved in other radio ventures, including Concept FM and Groove FM, before transitioning to internet radio.

As someone who owns a similar dance music streaming station, I believe it’s important to recognise the effort that goes into the house music scene at all levels.

There is something commendable about enthusiast-run sites.

It’s great to see people actively contributing to the music community, and they certainly deserve our support.
